Do the pens need to dry before we hang them?
Give each ornament a few minutes before handling. The color sets quickly on sanded wood, so you can usually hang them the same afternoon.
What age is this good for?
Kids around 5 and up can paint on their own. Younger ones do well with a grown-up holding the ornament steady while they color.
Can we seal them so the color lasts?
You don't have to. If you want extra protection for long-term storage, a light coat of clear craft sealer works fine once the color is fully dry.
Do we have to use the shapes for the tree only?
Not at all. Many people turn them into gift tags, garland pieces, or little package toppers.
How to use
- Step 1: Lay the wooden shapes on a flat surface. A placemat or sheet of paper keeps the table clean.
- Step 2: Shake each pen and press the tip down on scrap paper for 1–2 seconds until the color flows.
- Step 3: Color the shape, then let it sit a few minutes to dry.
- Step 4: Thread the cord through the hole, add a bell if you like, and tie a knot.
