Discover the cosmos in a whole new way with this elaborately crafted orrery, which brings the planets of our solar system and their motions to life in stunning detail. Beyond being a striking decorative piece, this display doubles as an educational tool that demonstrates the mechanics of celestial movement.
This model includes a full set of 9 planets, counting Pluto, along with 28 moons. A dynamic display shows the Moon tracing its path around Earth while Earth itself journeys around the Sun.
Interestingly, Mercury makes 1,028 trips around the Sun for every single orbit Pluto completes, with Mercury's orbit taking about 4 seconds compared to Pluto's 4 hours in the model's mechanism.
The Sun, planets, and moons are made from fine semi-precious stone spheres, and brass planet versions with stone moons can be arranged as a special order. The piece runs on batteries unless another option is noted.
An eye-catching mechanism sits fully exposed beneath the rotating planets, revealing a detailed set of solid brass gears at work.
The refined craftsmanship continues with a twelve-sided oak barrel that houses the gear assembly, resting elegantly on 12 solid brass feet for an added touch of sophistication.
